Tether - 2012

Steel chain, couplings, pegs and three maple trees

2.5 x 15 x 3.25 m

"Tether" is a site-specific response to the grounds of the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington. The piece uses steel chain to mimic the structural function of roots by connecting the branches of three maple trees to the ground. The piece might be understood as an overzealous attempt to prevent theft, restrain growth or as if the trees run the risk of floating away.
