Two prison cells reveal the outlook of their inhabitants. Magnifying lenses draw attention to markings on the wall of young Lulu's cell. They reveal her concern for surfaces and her distorted anticipation of the future. She is heard singing an advertising jiggle for a cosmetics company. Next door, Emma, an elderly woman, sings a depression era song about a girl torn between childhood and womanhood. Brass concave mirrors reflect the room upside-down, like her skewed memory of the past.
