LYLA RYE

This piece is based on cellphone footage of clear cuts shot by tree planters in Northern Ontario and Alberta and scored by pianist/composer Eve Egoyan. The videos were sent to me via Messenger to compress the images and expose a distanced witnessing. As the footage is handheld, I manually stabilized it. The lines I used to do so ended up as part of the videos, sometimes targeting, slicing or dragging the trees. The installation is to be seen on a curved screen. This mock-up gives you a small sense of the experience of the piece.
